Websites for nonprofits

A nonprofit website has to persuade three audiences at once: people you serve, people who might give, and people who might volunteer. Each needs its own clear path. Show what you do and for whom, prove it with plain facts, and make giving and volunteering one tap away. Most small nonprofits fit our $599 Business Site.

Who searches for a nonprofit, and how

Nonprofit visitors arrive with very different intentions, so the home page should route them quickly.

  • People seeking help: "food pantry near me", "free tutoring for kids [city]", "legal aid [county]".
  • Donors: "[organization] donate", "charities in [city]", "is [organization] a 501(c)(3)".
  • Volunteers: "volunteer opportunities this weekend", "volunteer with animals [city]".

Pages every nonprofit site should have

Separate paths for help, giving and volunteering keep each audience from wading through content meant for someone else.

  • Home: mission in one sentence, three buttons (Get help, Give, Volunteer).
  • Programs: what you offer, who's eligible, how to access it.
  • Get help: hours, locations, documents needed, languages spoken.
  • Donate: links to your existing donation processor, what a gift does, your tax-exempt status as stated in your determination letter.
  • Volunteer: roles, time commitment, sign-up form.
  • About and accountability: board, staff, annual report and financials if you publish them.

Sample structure for a community nonprofit

A community organization with a few programs fits in seven or eight pages, often in two languages.

  • / (mission, Get help / Give / Volunteer)
    • /programs/
    • /get-help/
    • /donate/
    • /volunteer/
    • /events/
    • /about/ (board, staff, reports)
    • /contact/

The right package, and our nonprofit pricing

Most nonprofits need the help, give and volunteer paths, which fit well in the $599 Business Site with two languages.

  • A single program or new organization: $249 Starter Site.
  • Community nonprofit with several programs: $599 Business Site.
  • Regional organization with many programs and languages: $1,500 Growth Site.

When our nonprofit program is running, eligible 501(c)(3) organizations get a discount; the pricing page shows what's currently on offer.

Nonprofit details that build trust

Donors and grant-makers look for evidence that money is used well, and the website is often where they check first.

  • Google Ad Grants. Google offers eligible nonprofits $10,000 USD of in-kind search text ads every month [1]. Those ads send people to your website, so a clear program page or donate page gives them somewhere useful to land.
  • Impact figures only as you report them, with the year.
  • Tax status and EIN, stated as on your official documents.
  • Annual reports or financial summaries, linked if public.
  • Languages: if the people you serve speak Spanish or another language, the help pages should too.

Questions people ask

Short answers to the questions that come up most when owners in this trade talk to us about a website.

Can the site take donations?

The Donate button links to the donation processor you already use, so receipts and records stay where they are now.

Do you offer nonprofit discounts?

We run a nonprofit program for eligible 501(c)(3) organizations when it's active; the pricing page shows the current terms.

Can volunteers sign up through the site?

Yes, through a simple form that sends sign-ups to you, or a link to your volunteer management tool.

Will you write impact numbers for us?

Only numbers you give us, with the year they cover. We never estimate or invent impact figures.
